Saima Bashir
About Me
Saima Bashir received her Ph.D in Sociology from Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA in 2017. She serves as the Head of Social Dynamics Units at PIDE. Trained as family demographer and sociologist, Dr. Bashir studies fertility and family behavior, maternal and child health, and family demography. A related line of research looks at unintended fertility, particularly looking at trends over time as well as the antecedents and consequences of unplanned childbearing. Dr. Bashir also studies the marriage market in Pakistan, looking at trends over time in consanguineous unions, and how they influence the reproductive decision making. Recent and current line of research focuses on political implications of changing age structure in Pakistan.
