The Process Of Ageing Which Is An Outcome Of The Demographic Transition Characterised By Reduced Mortality And Fertility Levels, Has Recently Gained Great Relevance In The Development Context Of Countries Across The World. The Demographic Transition Which Took More Than A Century To Complete In The Developed World, Is Being Completed In A Few Decades In Some Of The Countries In The Developing World. A Continuous Fall In Fertility In Conjunction With Improvement In Mortality Rate Bring About Changes In The Age Structure Of Population That Lead To A Decline In The Proportion Of Children And A Cumulating Increase In The Proportion Of People In The Higher Ages, Resulting In The Ageing Of A Population.
