ICT Infrastructure
The Division has established a state-of-the-art Local Area Network (LAN) of approximately 500 nodes through Gigabit Ethernet connections and Wireless Access Points. The Broadband Internet connectivity through fiber optic is provided by HEC as a member of Pakistan Education & Research Network (PERN). On-line Lecturing and Net-Meeting using IP-based Video Conferencing facility is also available at Dr. A. R. Kemal Seminar Hall of the Institute. Uninterruptible 24 Hours Power Supply is provided at the campus by installing several UPS and a Generator. Each classroom is equipped with a multimedia projector, and CCTV Cameras monitor the whole campus
The services provided to the users include high-speed internet access, separate email accounts for inter-office and external communication, access to central data bank, printing, scanning, PIDE Library’s bibliographic database searching and access to HEC Digital Library resources like E-databases including JSTORE, ProQuest, Ebrary, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis, Wiley InterScience, and ASTM International. Other available resources are IMF Statistical database, World Bank E-library, World Bank Global Development Finance (GDF Online), and World Development Indicators (WDI online).
MS Office, GAMS, SPSS, STATA, SHAZAM, TSP, EViews, Mathematica, MS Project etc. are some of the mostly used software at PIDE. The students, faculty and other staff of PIDE can download genuine software on subsidized rates or free from the link “Microsoft for All” provided at PIDE website under HEC and Microsoft’s Education Alliance project. Other software may be arranged on demand. The Division staff is always available for troubleshooting any ICT related problems.
The ICT Division is currently managing three state-of-the-art computer labs for students and PIDE staff.
- A lab is dedicated for Ph.D students
- Two labs are reserved for M.Phil, M.Sc and MBA Students
Every staff member and registered student has a login account to use Local Area Network (LAN) and also an email account and other ICT facilities at PIDE. Each computer lab is equipped with 20 plus Core i7, Core i5 and Core i3 desktop computers and Network LaserJet Printers. A scanner and a heavy duty colored laser jet printer is also available at one lab. Other software may also be installed as per requirement of the students and researchers.
The 32MB Broadband Internet connectivity through fiber is provided to all users. The students, researchers and faculty members can access Pakistan Education Research Network (PERN), databases of online journals like JSTOR, Blackwell Synergy, Oxford University Press, etc from Campus LAN.
The Division is providing dedicated 32MB Broadband Internet connectivity through fiber optic cables for surfing, downloading and other web related activities to the researchers, faculty members, students and other staff of the Institute. The ICT Division has acquired three domains to provide official email accounts which are pide.org.pk for staff and pide.edu.pk for students and faculty members and pidealumni.edu.pk for Alumni of the Institute for communication. To access email accounts, users may use web browser or a separate email client. The Division provides Microsoft Outlook and Google based solutions for email and other online communication services. Different group email accounts like [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] etc. are also used for inter office communication and announcements.
The ICT Division has established a world class video conferencing lecture room with the collaboration of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) under the project entitled “Online Lecturing and Net-Meeting using IP-based Video Conferencing System for provisioning of Video Conferencing facility at all public sector universities and establishment of world class video conferencing lecture room”. Through Video Conferencing facility the students have the opportunity to learn from high profile teachers, exchange their ideas, contribute & share their research work. This not only enhances their knowledge & capabilities but eventually the standard of education at PIDE. The Video Conferencing Room has a seating capacity of 35-40 persons and is named after Former Director of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Dr. A. R. Kemal. The facility is also being utilized for conducting conferences/meetings and results in saving precious resources including time and money.

2) In the VPN Application (Easy Connect) Resources, Please Click on Data Bank from your Laptop/Desktop.
3) After clicking on Data Bank, A Dialog Box will appear, Please put in your VPN username and password to access the Data Bank Resources.
The ICT Division provides access to International Monetary Fund (IMF) Data bank from PIDE campus LAN. It can be used to find Exchange Rates, IMF Accounts, Foreign Exchange, Total Reserves minus Gold, Gold (Million Fine Troy Ounces), Total Reserves, Money, Interest Rates, Consumer Prices, Exports, Imports, Industrial Production, Export Unit Values, Import Unit Values, Country Tables, Monthly Notes (RTF), World Tables, Front Matter, Yearbook Notes and other PDF resources you may need.
The ICT Division staff provides guidance in analyzing the data set and different levels of support in data handling to Researchers and students of PIDE. Fifty data sets are available in the PIDE data bank for use of the students and other research staff. Data sets are available offline. Major data sets are:
