THE PAKISTAN DEVELOPMENT REVIEW

Maximizing National Product by the Choice of Industries

The purpose of this paper is to bridge a communication gap between economists and public opinion. It is the author’s answer to a stubborn misunderstanding. He shows why in the early phases of development concentration on lbour-intensive activities maximizes national product and, consequently, the possibility to grow. An additional argument in favour of such a policy is that it contributes maximally to reducing unemployment.
